MARK PEYROT received his Ph.D. from UCLA and is Professor in the department of Sociology as well as Director of the Center for Social and Community Research at Loyola College. He is also on the research faculty at the University of Memphis and the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Much of his research and consulting has dealt with the marketing and evaluation of treatment and prevention in health and human services. His current research examines the management of chronic disease and community health initiatives. His publications include book chapters and articles in such journals as Social Problems, Social Psychology Quarterly, Journal of Marriage and the Family, International Journal of the Addictions, Diabetes Care, Psychosomatic Medicine, Journal of Public Policy and Marketing, Journal of Health Care Marketing, and Sociological Practice Review. He has received grants from the National Science Foundation, the American Cancer Society, and the American Diabetes Association, among others. He has served as chair of the Health, Health Policy and Health Services Division of the Society for the Study of Social Problems, Vice-Chair of the Council for Psychology and Behavioral Medicine of the American Diabetes Association, council member of the American Sociological Association Sociological Practice Section, and secretary of the Society for Applied Sociology. He currently serves on the editorial board of two sociology journals, including Social Problems, and is a consulting reviewer for other sociology and medical journals.
