Basic to Montessori theory is the idea that the child’s physical, social, emotional, spiritual and intellectual development are interrelated. In addition, the development of the human mind does not happen primarily through imparted knowledge. Rather, children themselves construct their minds according to inner directives. To facilitate this construction, they need spontaneous interaction with their environment.
WMI’s facilities, located on Loyola’s Columbia Campus, mirror the Montessori “prepared” environment and were specifically developed to train teachers how to guide and observe their students’ progress in such a professional environment. |
