    Red Security Alert

    The Homeland Security Advisory System identifies a Severe Condition of Alert (Code Red) as the following:

    A severe risk of terrorist attacks. Under most circumstances, the Protective Measures for a Severe Condition are not intended to be sustained for substantial periods of time. In the incidence of a High Condition of Alert, Federal departments and agencies are directed to consider the following general measures in addition to the agency-specific Protective Measures that they will develop and implement:

    • Increasing or redirecting personnel to address critical emergency needs;
    • Assigning emergency response personnel and pre-positioning and mobilizing specially trained teams or resources;
    • Monitoring, redirecting, or constraining transportation systems; and
    • Closing public and government facilities.

    During a Severe Condition of Alert (Code Red), Loyola College in Maryland will implement the following measures:

    • Card readers at all buildings will remain "card access only" and locked 24 hours a day;
    • All students, faculty and staff must visibly display the Loyola College ID on outer garment, around neck, etc.;
    • Shuttle bus drivers will check College IDs before boarding passengers;
    • Only authorized truck deliveries will be allowed on the Ennis Parallel.  All other trucks must use Jenkins/Beatty lot;
    • Campus Police will increase foot/bike patrols;
    • Campus Police will station police vehicles in key positions with amber lights 24 hours a day;
    • Campus Police will raise awareness so the College Community reports unusual vehicles, people or events to them at X5010; and
    • Campus Police will generate greater awareness regarding propped doors.

    In addition, the College has developed a comprehensive evacuation plan for the residence halls to augment the plans already in place for buildings on all three campuses. The Student Life staff and Resident Assistants have been trained to ensure that the plan is broadly disseminated and understood, and resident students have received a memo from Director of Student Life Leonard Brown which included specific plans for evacuations. Each resident student is urged to become familiar with these plans.
