As 2012 draws to a close and we celebrate the holiday season, we have much to be thankful for at Loyola University Maryland and in the Sellinger School. I’m proud to report we finished the year with additional strong accolades. The Sellinger School of Business was included among the Princeton Review’s 296 Best Business Schools: 2013 Edition, a distinction we have now achieved four years running. Loyola also continues to be recognized as a regional and global opportunity leader for our students. Loyola was ranked second among regional universities in the North in U.S. News & World Report's 2013 edition of “Best Colleges,” marking the tenth consecutive year we have ranked among the top five institutions in this category. And for the second time in as many years our university has been named first in the nation among master’s institutions that have the most students who study abroad in one-semester programs by the Institute of International Education.
These recent accolades are due to the tremendous effort and work that our faculty, administrators, and staff put forth in making Loyola and Sellinger a great place for our students. I’m pleased that financial tools, such as those provided by the Dean’s Fund, help further this important work by contributing to projects and programs that continue to keep us on the path of an innovation and thought leader in higher education. Our feature this month highlights a small sample of “gifts” that Sellinger was able to make in support this year of our students, faculty, networks, and community. It’s great to be able to make these contributions, and I hope that the endeavors aided will prosper and provide benefit for all.

These men and women showcase a sampling of the entrepreneurship, innovation, and leadership that make us all proud to be Greyhounds. I ask that you give a special consideration to Cards for CARES, where the proceeds of handmade card sales support the Govans Ecumenical Development Corporation (GEDCO), which provides affordable housing with supportive services. GEDCO is a partner in Loyola’s York Road Initiative, and Sellinger School students are helping to create the business plan for the Cards for CARES project.
