Practicing the customer focus they teach, the MBA Fellows faculty partners recently responded to Fellow's student requests for a shorter program. Formerly three years long, the Partners developed a shortened program where entering Fellows cohorts of up to 40 students now complete their degree in just two-and-a-half years with summers off. With the EMBA Program as its model, the MBA Fellows curriculum is integrated, thematic and structured. It includes accelerated course work providing the foundation of business education: accounting, quantitative decision making, economics, finance, marketing, organizational behavior, and international business followed by high level strategic course work emphasizing current conceptual and practical trends for effective leadership of all of today's organizations. Loyola’s Sellinger School of Business and Management is a leading provider of business education in the Baltimore community. Loyola’s Executive MBA students are leaders in companies from every sector of the business landscape, and have come from all six Fortune 1,000 companies based in the Baltimore area: Constellation Energy, Grace Chemicals, Black & Decker, Legg Mason, T. Rowe Price and McCormick & Company. As reflective leaders in their organization and in their lives, Executive MBA students learn not only to consider the effect their decisions will have on the community, but also to serve the needs of their community. At their final retreat, Executive MBA students complete a service learning trip. This year, Executive MBA students volunteered at Believe in Tomorrow Children’s Foundation. Service retreats in past years have included volunteering at the Golden Harvest, the Susanna Wesley House, Gallagher Services, and the William S. Baer School as well as participating in leadership panel discussions and training on mentoring others. THE ACADEMIC YEAR Like the Executive MBA Program, the MBA Fellows’ academic year is divided into three ten-week modules spanning the September-May period. MBA Fellows students take two classes per ten-week module. Thus, an MBA Fellows student takes six classes per year for three academic years with summers off. THE TYPICAL CLASS DAY Students and faculty begin to arrive at the MBA Fellows class site at 7:30 a.m. to mingle over a continental breakfast and prepare for the day. The first class begins at 8:00 a.m. and continues until 10:30 a.m. which includes a break. Following a twenty minute recess, the second and final class of the day begins at 10:50 a.m. with wrap-up at 1:20 p.m. THE TYPICAL WEEK A typical week for an MBA Fellows student will include between fifteen and twenty-five hours of effort divided among class time, team time and personal study time. Although every student is different and time commitments may vary, the range is generally the same. Regular team meeting times and locations are determined by the individual members of each team. Usually, teams meet at least once a week for several hours and perhaps more often in those weeks preceding team projects or presentations. CANDIDATE PROFILE Because the MBA Fellows program grew out of a desire to meet the needs of the emerging leader, the most important quality of an MBA Fellows candidate is leadership potential. Many MBA Fellows students have about four to six years of increasing management experience. Others may have more experience than that and choose the MBA Fellows Program over the Executive MBA Program for its convenient Saturday delivery. Still others may be described as showing leadership potential and possessing a smaller amount of management background but be a target for growth within their companies. Many of these candidates have been referred to the MBA Fellows Program directly by their companies who seek a well-paced, structured degree program leading to the executive skill set. Like the Executive MBA Program, the MBA Fellows Program welcomes rising leaders from all types and sizes of organizations. Due to its seminar-style learning environment, the Program is ideally suited to a rich diversity of professional backgrounds and functional expertise. Because the MBA Fellows Program hinges on leadership potential and provides for functional skill development for the non-business major within the curriculum, all academic backgrounds are welcome to apply. Most MBA Fellows students range in age from mid to late twenties to early forties with the mean age generally 32 to 34. SCHOLARSHIPS Need and Merit-Based Scholarships are available for qualified Diversity Candidate, Non-Profit Managers, Entrepreneurs and Female Executives. NO GMAT REQUIRED Rigorous and demanding, admission to Loyola’s EMBA and MBA Fellows Programs doesn’t hinge on the results of a standardized test. Provided that a candidate can demonstrate prior undergraduate or graduate academic success and has a proven track-record of significant professional leadership roles and well-developed communications skills, no GMAT is required.
