ADMISSION

Law and Social Responsibility Department

The Law & Social Responsibility department prepares undergraduate and graduate students to become leaders and managers who understand legal and ethical rules that will guide their behavior.

At the undergraduate level, the Law & Social Responsibility department offers a number of innovative, justice-focused courses to students across the campus.  Undergraduate students may take courses that consider legal responses to inequality in the United States, welfare law and policy, and/or international human rights in a business context.

In addition to offering justice-focused electives, the department offers a required undergraduate business course that explores the legal environment in which businesses operate.  Students with a wide range of majors, from Communication to Political Science, often choose this course as an elective.  The department offers justice-infused sections of this course that meet the College’s Diversity Course Requirement.  Justice-infused courses examine oppression, discrimination, prejudice, stigmatization, and/or privilege.

At the graduate (MBA) level, the Department of Law & Social Responsibility offers two required courses--a course that focuses on corporate/organizational compliance with laws and regulations, and a higher-level required course that examines ethics and corporate social responsibility.  The department also offers electives in the evening MBA program, including courses that consider international ethics, intersections among power, privilege and professional identity, and legal and managerial issues in not-for-profit organizations.

Known for its innovative teaching, research, and discourse on justice, the Law & Social Responsibility department often attracts undergraduate students exploring the possibility of attending law school.  Students interested in informal pre-law advising are invited to contact the Department Chair, Andrea Giampetro-Meyer, at AGiampet@loyola.edu.  For administrative assistance, please contact the department administrative assistant at 410-617-2381.
