GB 828 and GB 829 Course Descriptions

GB828 Student-Managed Sellinger Applied Portfolio Fund I   (3.00 cr.)
Prerequisite: GB722 and department approval. Restricted to MSF students or MBA student  pursuing a finance concentration. The first of a required two course sequence wherein students serve as portfolio and investment managers charged with managing the Sellinger Applied Portfolio Fund in a manner consistent with the core goals and philosophy of the Loyola College in Maryland Endowment. An extensive review and instructional component exposes students to various aspects of the portfolio management process, including but not limited to asset valuation, constraint setting, asset allocation, asset selection, risk management, asset valuation, and performance evaluation.  The course also has an applied research component as the students actually manage the Fund and make investment decisions. Students must submit an application and receive acceptance prior to registering for this course. GB828 and GB829 combined fulfill the requirement for a GB826 Applied Research and GB723, respectively.  Students must commit to take both courses because the academic content is spread over the two course sequence. Closed to students who have taken GB723. (Spring only)
