On Wednesday, April 8, the Center for Closely Held Firms will sponsor a workshop entitled, "What the World's Current Financial Crisis Reveals about Human Behavior", a discussion around the human emotions that we are all dealing with these days. The program, which will be held at The Graduate Center Timonium campus, will begin at 8:00 a.m. following a light breakfast at 7:30 a.m. and will end at 10:30 a.m. Within the context of the continuing troubles in the financial markets and general economic meltdown, Father Tim Brown, Professor of Law at the Sellinger School, will walk the group through the ethics of "right relations," talk through the hard emotions of "anger and mistrust," and offer reflections through a survey of recent literature around these issues. Reverend Timothy Brown, S.J., entered the Society of Jesus in 1974, was ordained in 1986 and pronounced final vows in 1997. He holds a B.S. degree in Foreign Service from Georgetown University, a Master of Divinity in Philosophy from Fordham University, a Master of Divinity from the Weston School of Theology and a J.D. from George Mason University. At Loyola, Father Brown co-founded the Center for Values and Service and teaches courses in law and social responsibility. Among the books Father Brown has authored are Setting Hearts on Fire: A Spirituality for Leaders (co-authored with Sr. Pat Sullivan, RSM), Psalms and Compassions: A Jesuit's Journey through Cancer, Great Ideas, Gentle as Doves: Reflections on Catholic Social Teaching and Psalms and Consolations: A Jesuit's Journey through Grief. To register for this event, please contact Audra Brown at anbrown@loyola.edu. The workshop is free to members and sponsors of the Center and their guests, students and faculty of Loyola College, and for first time non-member participants. A $125 per person fee applies for subsequent workshops. The Center for Closely Held Firms aims to help closely held and family-owned businesses survive and prosper.
