Beth Vallen, Ph.D., an assistant professor of marketing at the Sellinger School of Business and Management will be honored with the “Best Paper Award” at the American Marketing Association’s annual Marketing & Public Policy Conference to be held in Washington, D.C. from May 28 – 30. This year’s theme will be “Contributions, Controversies, and Continuing Challenges in the Worlds of Consumer Protection and Competition” and is co-chaired by Elizabeth S. Moore and William L. Wilkie from the University of Notre Dame and Janis K. Pappalardo from the Federal Trade Commission. The award will be presented at the conference’s awards luncheon on May 29 and honors the paper “Vicarious Goal Fulfillment: When the Mere Presence of a Healthy Option Leads to an Ironically Indulgent Decision” for which Vallen was a co-author. The paper has been published in the Journal of Consumer Research and cited in the New York Times and Time Magazine. The Marketing & Public Policy Conference is the premier event for marketing scholars and practitioners interested in topics related to social and public policy. It brings together an international roster of academics, marketing practitioners, government officials, consumer representatives, legal professionals and other interested parties to discuss current issues and research results pertaining to public policy issues in marketing.
