Laura Hajducek awarded prestigious McGowan Scholarship

BALTIMORE, MD – Laura Hajducek, a rising senior Finance major and Economics minor from Princeton Junction, NJ, has been named a William G. McGowan Scholar at Loyola College in Maryland for the 2005-2006 academic year. The scholarship carries a full year of tuition.

Hajducek is a member of Alpha Sigma Nu, the National Jesuit Honor Society, and Beta Gamma Sigma, the National Business Honor Society, and has been named to the Dean’s List every semester since her freshman year. She received the College’s Top Freshman Business Economics Award, earned the College’s Business Achievement Award as a freshman and sophomore, and has participated as a Sellinger Scholar in Loyola’s academic business honors program since her sophomore year. In addition to the McGowan Scholarship, Hajducek has also been awarded a Loyola College Presidential Scholarship and scholarships from the West Windsor Lions Club and the Rotary Club of the Princeton Corridor.

The McGowan Scholarship Fund at Loyola’s Sellinger School of Business and Management was established in 1998 by the William G. McGowan Charitable Fund, which is committed to promoting, nurturing and creating educational opportunities, especially in the business field; developing the gifts and talents of the young; and funding health care and medical science research.

McGowan was the founder and Chairman of MCI Communications Corporation and, until his death in 1992, led the telecommunications industry as a pioneer in the application of new technologies, the emergence of competition in the industry, and the creation of innovative services. He received an honorary doctorate from Loyola in 1991.
