Come join the "World's Coolest Business Plan Competition"

What is Mosh Pit!?
Created by the Greater Baltimore Technology Council (GBTC) in 2002, Mosh Pit! provides an opportunity for students from Maryland colleges and universities to experience every aspect of starting a business.  Student participants learn how to form a qualified team, write a competitive and realistic 2-5 page business plan, and present their ideas in a concise and clear format. And of course, there’s the cash prizes – a total of $30,000 for the winning teams.

Who Should Participate?
1) Any student with a dream of launching his or her own business.  Note: technology must play a role in some aspect of your business plan.

2) Any student who may not have a business idea, but wants to participate, network and at some point down the road, be part of an entrepreneurial team.

(All undergraduate and graduate students in the state of Maryland (full or part-time) are eligible to enter the competition.)

Why Participate?
It’s fun and it provides the ‘real world’ experience that looks great on a resume.  And besides the practical knowledge the experience brings, students will also make connections with some of Maryland’s top tech entrepreneurs, businesspeople and venture capitalists who will act as your “advisors” as you develop your business plans.  These individuals can be an invaluable resource in a post-graduation job search or business launch.  And did we mention the cash prizes?

What To Do Now?
Get on the MoshPit! email list.  Go to www.gbtechcouncil.org/events/mp/index.asp and click “Join our email list”.  As we draw closer to the event, we’ll send periodic updates and provide more details on the competition.  Here are the three phases of the Mosh Pit competition:

Mixer – March 2nd  (5:30pm – 7:30pm)

Emerging Technology Center/2400 Boston Street, 3rd Floor/Baltimore MD 21224
The Mixer provides an opportunity for you to learn all about the competition and begin networking…with other students and the business advisors.  Everyone who is interested in participating should attend.

Note: food/drink will be provided at both the MIXER and THE PIT and parking is free.

The Pit! – March 28th (5:30pm – 8:30pm)

Location:  Law offices of DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary (6225 Smith Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21209)
The main event - here’s where student entrepreneurs present their ideas on stage (1-2 minutes at the mic) and build a team.  At the end of this evening, each team will submit an Executive Summary which includes a listing of your team (3-7 students and 1-3 business advisors) and a brief description of your idea.  Following “THE PIT”, each team will create a 2-5 page business plan (template to be provided by the GBTC) – plans must be submitted via email by April 11th at 5:00pm.

Finals – April 22nd (3:00pm – 6:00pm)

All business plans will be reviewed by a committee and up to seven teams may be selected to compete in the FINALS.  Finalists will be announced on Friday, April 15th.   At the Finals, teams present their ideas to a panel of judges (investors and CEO’s).  Each judge will have $5 million MoshPit! dollars to invest in any combination of teams.  The teams that garner the most investment dollars, win cash and prizes.
