Affiliate Faculty, Accounting Edcuation: M.B.A. (Accounting) – Loyola College in Maryland B.A. – Loyola College in Maryland Professionally Speaking: "Loyola’s MBA in accounting is extremely well-regarded in terms of the longevity of the program and its continuing quality." Personally Speaking: "I’m not just an accountant and neither are my students. Loyola addresses all facets of the individual." Spotlight When alumnus Scott Lancaster began teaching at Loyola in 2001 he had the sense of coming home. With both undergraduate and graduate degrees from the university, his affiliate faculty position allows him to combine his passion for teaching with his enthusiasm for a program that he believes brings immediate credibility and recognition to its graduates. “Loyola’s MBA program has terrific brand recognition that has grown beyond the Baltimore metropolitan area,” he says. “And the networking opportunities that are available are just as valuable as the classroom experiences.” The practical, technically rigorous program has particular relevance for his professionally-focused students, many of whom are career changers. Because they come from diverse backgrounds, Lancaster is challenged to present the information in the best way possible and to keep the environment interactive. “As a part-time faculty member, I think I bring applied knowledge to the coursework we cover,” he says. “Since I’m in business just like my students, I can give examples of how a particular theory actually plays out – what Sarbanes-Oxley means in the “real world,” how the ethics we discuss can be applied to those smaller situations we face in the workplace every day.” Loyola’s Accounting Advisory Board also helps ensure that the program stays relevant. Comprised of 30 – 40 professionals from large and small businesses alike, it meets three times a year to review and advise at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. It is by involving the business community through participation such as Lancaster’s and the Accounting Advisory Board that Loyola continues to merit its reputation for providing a well-rounded MBA program that successfully addresses the professional, technical and ethical issues of today.
