Practicum / Internship A 100 hour practicum and 600 hour internship are required for the School Counseling graduate program. Practicum To qualify for GC791 Practicum (100 hours), you must have completed the preliminary courses as outlined in the handbook and explained to you by your advisor prior to signing up for practicum [i.e., GC700, GC704, GC701, GC706, and GC792]; the latter two courses may be taken concurrently with GC791. To receive a practicum placement, complete the following forms and email both to Jennifer Lyall at jllyall@loyola.edu (*Note: You must save both forms to your local computer, complete the forms, then attach them to an email to Jen Lyall).
We will contact you to confirm your Loyola practicum supervisor assignment and section number prior to the opening of registration for fall 2012. When registering, you must register for the assigned course number and section. You will be moved if you register for the wrong class. Please do not set up your own placement. View the Practicum handbook (PDF). Internship In order to be eligible for Internship, you must complete the practicum (GC791 - 100 hours) prior to beginning internship. The internship (600 hours) is a culminating experience for school counseling students; that is, it occurs at the end of your program of study. View the Internship handbook (PDF). If you have completed practicum and are approved for internship by your advisor, you have the following options:
For all options, a letter confirming your Loyola internship supervisor assignment and section number will be sent to you prior to the opening of the fall 2012 registration period. When registering, you MUST register for the assigned course number and section. You will be moved if you register for the wrong class. The deadline date for the forms is Monday, April 2, 2012. If the forms are not received by the requested date, you will not be eligible for a placement nor will you be allowed to register for the respective class. Please call your advisor if you need further clarification. In addition to Baltimore and Howard counties, we encourage you to think about a placement in Harford, Anne Arundel County, or Baltimore City. Montgomery county is an option; please understand stipend fees are slightly higher. Access the practicum and internship time sheet. |
