Discovery Packing List

  • This clothing list reflects the importance of layering. Dressing in several light layers rather than one heavy layer allows more flexibility as the weather and workloads change.
  • Due to unpredictable weather patterns it is imperative that each person- BE PREPARED- for cold, hot, wet, sunny, or cloudy days. If one person is not properly prepared this will impact the individual’s attitude, physical attitude, and impact the entire group experience.
  • Do not bring cotton clothing (except T-shirts) such as jeans and sweatshirts. Cotton holds moisture and loses all of its ability to retain heat when it is wet. Also cotton does not dry quickly, it stays wet and heavy.
  • Don’t feel that all gear must be bought at mountaineering and specialty stores. Thrift shops, goodwill, army/navy stores, and even WalMart can be an excellent source many items on the list
