Barbara Ness

Barbara Ness received her undergraduate degree from Ohio State University and her Master's degree from Loyola College.  Prior to changing careers to become a speech-language pathologist, Barbara was a psychiatric social worker.  As her family grew she chose to not work outside the home but continued to volunteer in the field of mental health as a hot line counselor for rape victims and in a suicide prevention program.  Barbara decided to change careers as her children got older but wanted to remain in the area of human services and direct intervention.  After receiving her Master's degree she worked for Kennedy Krieger providing home-based therapy for medically fragile children and then worked at the Kennedy Krieger school in classrooms designated for children with autism and neurological impairment.  Prior to its closing, Barbara worked for 6 1/2 years as a supervisor at the Timonium Speech and Language Literacy Center.  She has been supervising at the Margaret A. McManus Speech, Language, and Hearing Clinic at Belvedere Square for the past 2 years. Her areas of particular interest include apraxia, oral motor, children with infrequently occurring genetic disorders and early literacy.
