Why is Young Alumni Support So Important?
Tuition covers only 76 percent of the true cost of a Loyola education. The difference in part is made up by the generosity of alumni, parents and friends through the annual Evergreen Fund.

  • Evergreen Fund gifts help to increase the alumni participation rate - the percentage of undergraduate alumni giving an annual gift to Loyola out of the College's total undergraduate alumni base. This percentage is a benchmark indicator of alumni satisfaction in rankings like U.S. News & World Report, which will directly influence top high school students' decisions when choosing Loyola over other colleges and universities and increase the value of a Loyola College degree.
  • Many companies and foundations base their decisions on where to distribute their six-figure gifts on alumni participation rates.
  • The size of the graduating classes increased dramatically over the past thirty years. In order for Loyola to continue to have one of the highest alumni participation rates among our peer institutions, a greater number of young alumni need to support the College. Current young alumni participation rates are in the 20 percent range compared to the overall participation of over 31 percent.

John Early Society
In 1852, The Rev. John Early, S.J. responded to the call to direct the opening of a Jesuit college in Maryland.  In founding Loyola College, Fr. Early courageously championed the values of Jesuit education that endure today.  So, it is quite fitting that the group known today as Loyola College’s most steadfast champions and advocates bears both his name and his signature.  Members of The John Early Society—numbering over 750—respond equally courageously to the call to support and endorse the values of a Loyola education.  The many, varied and impressive achievements of the past years would not be possible without the exemplary leadership and generosity of the members of The John Early Society who share in our commitment to academic excellence and the values that distinguish Loyola College.  The John Early Society Colleague level begins at $400 and increases $100 per year beginning in the fifth year after graduation.

All members of The John Early Society Colleagues receive:
An invitation to the College's annual John Early Society Christmas Party

  • Invitations to special events
  • Special recognition in the College's Annual Report of Gifts
  • Access to staff dedicated to providing responses to member's questions, comments and concerns

Young Alumni Colleague Council
The Colleague Council is a leadership group comprised of members of The John Early Society who have graduated in the past decade. This group seeks to strengthen the relationship between young alumni and the College.  Colleague Council members form a core group of young alumni advocates for the College whose generosity and leadership are indicative of the value they place on the Loyola educational experience.  Members of the Colleague Council promote the College’s mission by supporting Loyola at a leadership level, communicating the College’s fundraising goals to their classmates, and encouraging their classmates to make a leadership gift to the Evergreen Fund. For more information and members of the Colleague Council, please e-mail Jill Davis '06, Annual Giving Officer.
