Reasons to Give

Profiles in Giving - William R. Roberts

The past three decades have been a time of tremendous change and growth for Loyola College. Once a small commuter school, Loyola is now a nationally recognized institution, attracting accomplished students from throughout the United States and from many countries across the globe. Without the leadership provided by The John Early Society, the College could never have reached the remarkable milestones achieved in recent years such as:

  • The establishment of a Phi Beta Kappa chapter
  • Its first Rhodes Scholar
  • The creation of two new graduate campuses
  • A record-breaking first-year class of nearly 1,000 students
  • A pioneering $1 million grant from the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation to establish a corps of advisors committed to improving access to higher education.

With this growing reputation for academic excellence comes additional challenges, and added responsibility to continue to recruit distinguished faculty, develop innovative curricula and make the benefits of a College education affordable for qualified students. It is in these new challenges that leadership donors have the greatest ability to make a difference.

Where Does Your Gift Go?

Gifts to the John Early Society are used to fund a wide variety of College programs and initiatives not covered by tuition revenue including:

  • Financial Aid -  About 65 percent of the College’s undergraduate students receive financial aid, with 53 percent receiving a Loyola grant or scholarship
  • Improvements to academic and residential facilities
  • Technology upgrades
  • Recruiting top-caliber teaching faculty

These examples are all crucial in making the Loyola education distinctive, and in providing its students with the finest array of academic and extracurricular choices possible.
