Loyola Men finish duel meet season at 5-5; Women at 5-6 with losses at Delaware

Saturday, February 1, 1997 -- The Greyhounds traveled to Delaware to face the Blue Hens in their final duel meet of the season. In both meets, the talent and depth of the Delaware squads proved too strong for the Hounds to handle as they suffered defeats.

The Loyola Men proved to themselves that they possess a great deal of talent that will show up in a major way at MAAC Championships as they captured all but three of the individual swimming events. After splitting an astounding 23.28 in the butterfly in the 200 yard medley relay, Freshman Ken Sposato won the 100 yard butterfly. He also took second in the 100 yard breastroke. Classmate Vin Massey finished first in the 100 and 200 yard freestyle events. Junior Mark Gallagher was victorious in the 50 yard freestyle and the 100 yard backstroke. Freshamn John Moore won the 500 yard freestyle and finished second in the grueling 1650 yard free.

The Women did not fare as well, winning only one swimming event. Senior Captain Pam O'Koren indicated that she is more than ready to do some serious damage at MAAC Championships with an impressive win in the 1650 yard freestyle. Senior Amy Cole and Freshman Christine Gahagan tied for second place in the 100 yard freestyle.

Despite the unfortuante results, the Seadogs swam many fast times against this strong competition and are very confident as they look towards Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships which start February 14.
