Common Career Services Myths

1.  The Career Center is only for business majors.

Resume building, interviewing, graduate school preparation, interest testing, and Career Fairs are just a few of the services provided by The Career Center to assist liberal arts majors interested in education, arts, the humanities, non-profit work and more.

2.  Most of the services are for Seniors.

The Career Center works to provide services for all students. Review our services and find out how we can help you develop a four-year career action plan.

3.  The Career Center places people in jobs.

While the On Campus Recruiting Program is a significant function of The Career Center, it is our mission to help students conduct a thoughtful, thorough, and effective job search that includes self assessment, workshops, internships, career field research and graduate school planning.

4.  Good companies don’t come to campus.

Numerous companies visit campus each year purposely in search of Loyola students from a variety of majors. Visit Hounds4Hire to find out who’s coming.

5.  The jobs available through On Campus Recruiting are only for business majors.

While a number of on-campus recruiters seek business majors, there are many employers who seek and hire liberal arts and science majors.

6.  The services are no longer available after I graduate.

As a Loyola alum, The Career Center’s resources are available to you as long you as need them.

7.  The Career Center cannot help me apply to Graduate School.

Career Advisors are here to help you with every aspect of applying to graduate school including program research, interviewing, and help with your personal statement.

8.  There are no internships for Freshmen and Sophomores.

Many employers are interested in hiring freshman and sophomore interns.  Hounds4Hire, internships-usa.com, internships.com and the Career Resource Library are great places to start exploring opportunities.
