There’s no getting around it. Sending your son or daughter away to college is a watershed moment. For you—and them. The decision becomes much easier when you consider all that Loyola University Maryland has to offer—starting with 150 years of academic excellence. Our reputation for top-tier academics is well earned. But academics is only the beginning. There’s also the fact that 65 percent of our students study abroad and 60 percent volunteer in community service efforts. Loyola students have ample opportunities to enrich their spiritual lives through retreats and regular worship. They can join one (or more) of 170+ clubs and student organizations. They can work at Apprentice House—the only campus based student-run publishing company in the country. The reasons are plentiful. The result? Graduates who are so diversified in their experiences that they are distinctly prepared to thrive in an ever-changing world. But if they ever need help—academically or otherwise—during their time at Loyola, the caring staff of our Academic Advising and Student Service offices will be right there to offer all the support they need to succeed.

ACADEMICS

A Loyola education is the foundation for a rich and meaningful intellectual life. In the core curriculum, your son or daughter will be exposed to critical knowledge in a wide variety of subjects—both familiar and completely new. We challenge our students to learn beyond their comfort zone, but we also make sure that they will be taught, tutored, mentored, and, dare we say it, cared about by their professors. At Loyola, students develop lifelong habits of curiosity, integrity, persistence, and a passion for the pursuit of knowledge that they will carry with them for the rest of their life.

OUR VALUES

OUR FOUNDING.
AND FOUNDATION.

As the intellects of the Catholic Church, it’s only fitting that the Jesuits were founded in an educational setting. The University of Paris, to be specific. The day was Aug. 15, 1534, and Ignatius of Loyola, along with six fellow students, founded the order of the Society of Jesus—the Jesuits, deeming it their mission to seek out cura personalis—or care of the whole person: mind, body, and spirit. During the centuries that have followed, Jesuits have become synonymous with higher education as a result of their extensive work as teachers, researchers, and world travelers–actively searching for knowledge through their broad life experiences. All in preparation to better serve humanity. Their purpose driven order set high standards of academic excellence, service, community building, appreciation for other cultures, and the ability to see God in all things. The same high standards upon which St. Ignatius built the Jesuit order, are the hallmarks of the institution that bears his name—Loyola University Maryland.

STUDENT LIFE

1,460 Days to Live
a Dog’s Life

Every Greyhound has a different version of life at Loyola. But there are certain things that always get mentioned when you ask a student what it’s like. Things like waking up to the sounds of student-run radio WLOY. Heading to downtown Baltimore for the afternoon. Performing community service for people who really need your help. Joining a club—or three. Hanging out at the Evergreen Café for an afternoon study/gossip session. Checking out the Inner Harbor on the Best of Baltimore program. Grabbing a morning pick–me–up at Starbucks in the student center before heading to classes. Sleeping out for Chordbusters tickets. Eating midnight breakfasts during test weeks. Cheering for the Greyhounds at home games. Relay for Life. Loyola-palooza. The list goes on. Ask a Loyola student and they will tell you life at Loyola is so much more than you might imagine. Once your son or daughter comes to Loyola, you will get to hear all the details firsthand.

DISTINCTLY PREPARED

distinctly-prepared
Labeling a Loyola graduate isn’t easy.
But one word generally applies: atypical.

Loyola brings together all the pieces of your student’s potential—their intellect, interests, talents, personality—and transforms them into one balanced whole. Each student’s mind, body, and spirit combine to create a distinctly prepared, confident leader who can adapt and thrive in an ever–changing world, with the foundation to succeed not only in a career, but in every aspect of life. Loyola Greyhounds are ready for anything. Ready for everything.

HOUSING

At Loyola, your child will have a place to call home that feels like more than a spot to stick their shower shoes—a place that combines the comfort and space of top–notch accommodations with the activity of dorm life. Loyola’s 16 residence halls are way more than four cinder block walls and a concrete floor. These are spacious, modern, fully furnished apartment–style homes—equipped with heating and air conditioning, laundry facilities, vending machines, and recreation areas. So while we may not be able to duplicate the feeling of being home, our top priority is ensuring that your son or daughter is comfortable—and above all—safe. It’s no wonder our residence halls are known as some of the best dorms you’all ever see on a college campus. In fact, according to the Princeton Review’s annual “Dorms like Palaces” list, our on–campus residence halls are among the best in the country.

FINANCIAL AID

An Opportunity
You Can Afford.

Loyola maintains a strong commitment to helping make our Jesuit, private education attainable for qualified students and their families. It's why we meet 100 percent of demonstrated financial need for students—a rarity among colleges and universities. We sponsor an excellent program of institutionally funded academic scholarships, need–based grants, and athletic grants, in addition to our participation in the major federal and state student aid programs.
