Loyola Has a Lot to Offer. 150 Years of Academic Excellence For Starters.
Check the facts and you’ll see that Loyola University’s reputation for top-tier academics is well-earned. But academics aren’t the only reason your students should give Loyola serious consideration. There’s also the fact that 65 percent of our students study abroad and 60 percent volunteer in community service efforts. They’ll have ample opportunity to enrich their spiritual lives through retreats and regular worship. They can join one (or more) of 170-plus clubs and student organizations. They can work at Apprentice House—the only campus-based student-run publishing company in the country. The reasons are plentiful. The result is graduates who are so diversified in their experiences that they are distinctly prepared to succeed in an ever-changing world.
OUR VALUES
OUR FOUNDING.
AND FOUNDATION.
As the intellects of the Catholic Church, it’s only fitting that the Jesuits were founded in an educational setting. The University of Paris, to be specific. The day was Aug. 15, 1534, and Ignatius of Loyola, along with six fellow students, founded the order of the Society of Jesus. The Jesuits made it their mission to impart cura personalis—or care of the whole person: mind, body, and spirit. During the centuries that have followed, Jesuits have become synonymous with higher education as a result of their extensive work as teachers, researchers, and world travelers—actively searching for knowledge through their broad life experiences. All in preparation to better serve humanity. Their purpose-driven order set high standards of academic excellence, service, community building, appreciation for other cultures, and the ability to see God in all things. The same high standards upon which St. Ignatius built the Jesuit order are the hallmarks of the institution that bears his name—Loyola University Maryland.
THE LOYOLA EDGE
Labeling a Loyola graduate isn’t easy.
But one word generally applies: atypical.
Loyola brings together all the pieces of your students’ potential—their intellect, interests, talents, personality—and transforms them into one balanced whole. Their mind, body, and spirit combine to create a distinctly prepared, confident leader who can adapt and thrive in an ever-changing world, with the foundation to succeed not only in a career, but in every aspect of their lives. Loyola Greyhounds are ready for anything. Ready for everything.
ACADEMICS
OUR ANCHOR.
THEIR
COMPASS.
The core curriculum at Loyola is an engaging course of study that will offer rigor and challenge to your students who are intellectually curious. But it’s more than that. It’s the foundation for a rich and meaningful life. In the core, your students will be exposed to critical knowledge in a wide variety of subjects including math, philosophy, ethics, art, and theology. Some they’ll be familiar with, while others will be completely new to them. By studying the core, they’ll develop lifelong habits of curiosity, honesty, persistence, and a passion for the pursuit of knowledge. When the time comes to do something different for a living (and research shows that it will), they’ll be ready.
STUDENT LIFE
1,460 Days to Live
a Dog’s Life
Every Greyhound has a different version of life at Loyola. But there are certain things that always get mentioned when you ask a student what it’s like. Things like waking up to the sounds of student-run radio station WLOY. Taking a daytrip into Baltimore. Performing community service for people who really need their help. Joining a club—or three. Hanging out at the Evergreen Café for an afternoon study/gossip session. Checking out the Inner Harbor on the Best of Baltimore program. Grabbing a morning pick-me-up at Starbucks in the student center before heading to class. Sleeping out for Chordbusters tickets. Midnight breakfasts during test weeks. Cheering for the Greyhounds at home games. Relay for Life. Loyola-palooza. The list goes on. Our students will tell you life at Loyola is way more than they could ever imagine it would be. Based on the experience of thousands of Greyhounds before them, we’re sure your students will feel the same.
HOUSING
At Loyola, your students will have a place to call home that feels like more than a spot to hang their backpack—a place that combines the comfort and space of top-notch accommodations with the activity of dorm life. Loyola’s 16 residence halls are more than four cinderblock walls and a concrete floor. These are spacious, modern, fully furnished, and carpeted apartment-style homes—equipped with heating and air conditioning, laundry facilities, vending machines, and recreation areas. All the comforts of home and then some. It’s no wonder our housing is well known as some of the best dorms on a college campus anywhere. In fact, according to the Princeton Review’s annual “Dorms like Palaces” list, our on-campus residence halls are among the best in the country.
STUDENT SERVICES
At Their Service.
At Loyola, it’s inevitable that your students will have questions. And this extends beyond classroom discussions. Thankfully, Loyola student services offer friendly and helpful staff to assist them with everything they’ll need if they’re feeling unprepared, frustrated, ill, or anything in between. With career counseling, health care, academic counseling, financial aid, and student development support, among others, we’ve got all the bases covered so that they can explore the world around them with confidence.
