Student Life

1,460 days to live a dog’s life.
Every Greyhound has a different version of life at Loyola. But there are certain things that always get mentioned when you ask a student what it’s like. Things like waking up to the sounds of student-run radio WLOY. Taking a daytrip into Baltimore. Performing community service for people who really need your help. Joining a club—or three. Hanging out at the Evergreen Café for an afternoon study/gossip session. Checking out the Inner Harbor on the Best of Baltimore program. Grabbing a morning pick-me-up at Starbucks in the student center before heading to classes. Sleeping out for Chordbusters tickets. Eating midnight breakfasts during test weeks. Cheering for the Greyhounds at home games. Relay for Life. Loyolapalooza. The list goes on. When you ask a Loyola student, you’ll hear that life at Loyola is way more than you could ever imagine it would be. Come to Loyola and you’ll discover why.
Campus Traditions

You Know You’re
a Greyhound if...
At Loyola, our devotion to tradition extends far beyond our Jesuit roots. It finds its way to the soccer field, to the runway, the music stage, and all over the Quad. We do things together, as Greyhounds. Whether it’s playing a friendly (well, mostly) game on the gridiron against the sophomore class, or dancing away a sunny afternoon to the sounds of a great band at Loyolapalooza, our traditions infuse the campus and co-eds with school spirit. At Loyola, this is simply how we express our pride, our energy, and our loyalty to the Greyhounds who have come before us.
Housing
At Loyola, you’ll have a place to call home that feels like more than just a place to hang your backpack. Loyola’s 16 residence halls combine the comfort and space of top–notch accommodations with the activity of dorm life. These are way more than four cinderblock walls and a concrete floor. Our residence halls are spacious, modern, fully furnished apartment–style homes—equipped with heating and air conditioning, laundry facilities, vending machines, and recreation areas. All the comforts of home and then some. It’s no wonder our residence halls are known as some of the best dorms you’ll ever see on a college campus. In fact, according to the Princeton Review’s annual “Dorms like Palaces” list, our on–campus residence halls are among the best in the country.
Recreation & fitness
Physical activity and recreation—from competitive sports to personal fitness—are fully intertwined in the fabric of a Loyola education. With 18 fiercely competitive NCAA Division I varsity teams, countless intramural opportunities, and a state-of-the-art Fitness & Aquatic Center, our devotion to physical activity is no small matter. At Loyola, we believe the body must be cared for with the same focus and energy as the mind to be able to serve the world to the best of our ability. And for this reason, our teams, coaches, and student body engage in vigorous exercise of the body for something much bigger than bragging rights.
Spiritual LIFE
A Much Higher Education.
Loyola invites members of the University community to nurture their spiritual lives by joining in the many opportunities for worship, prayer, service, retreat, and community building offered through Campus Ministry. Interested students are challenged to engage in their unique spiritual journeys and to develop their faith - no matter what their faith may be. A Jesuit education is about holistic development, and we encourage every student to attend to his or her spiritual growth and to integrate their spirituality in all they do at Loyola.
STUDENT SERVICES
AT YOUR SERVICE
At Loyola, it’s inevitable that you’ll have questions. And this extends beyond classroom discussions. Thankfully, Loyola Student Services offers friendly and helpful staff to help you with everything you need if you’re feeling unprepared, frustrated, ill, or anything in between. With career counseling, health care, academic counseling, financial aid, and student development support, among others, we’ve got all the bases covered so that you can explore the world around you with confidence.
Clubs & Student Groups
SO MANY CLUBS.
SO LITTLE TIME.
At Loyola, we have no doubt that you’ll find a pack you can run with—other students who share your same interests, that is. There’s an outlet for just about any passion (bubble tea, anyone?) no matter how obscure. With more than 170 clubs and organizations, from academic clubs, student government, publications, and broadcast, to music, dance, and special interest clubs, there’s something for everyone. Think you have an interest that even we haven’t heard of? Start your own club—we’re betting you’ll find some friends who share the same passion.
THE BALTIMORE AREA
“BAWLMER MERLIN.”
Baltimore is an integral part of the Loyola experience—it is, after all, our hometown. And trust us when we tell you that there’s much more to it than crabs and shopping (though these are both incredible). The best thing about Baltimore? It’s constantly evolving. No matter what your interests are, there are thriving scenes emerging in up-and-coming neighborhoods all over Baltimore. Memorize the names Federal Hill, Canton, Inner Harbor, and Fells Point. Furnish your place with interesting knickknacks at the Station North Flea Market. Pick up tunes at The Sound Garden—one of the best record stores in the country. There’s so much to explore, it would take a lot more than four years before you’d ever run out of options.
