Loyola / Notre Dame Library Grand ReopeningSpecial Events

Come to an open house to celebrate our beautifully renovated library! A variety of events are in the works, including performances by members of Loyola's jazz ensemble and Notre Dame's Concert Choir; drop-in library tours; opportunities to talk with artists Mary Beth Akre of Loyola and Kevin Raines of Notre Dame, who will be on hand to discuss the paintings they're creating for us, and to show off their progress so far; the Research & Instruction Department will present a couple of quickie workshops on Library Thing and Flickr; Library Director John McGinty will be giving a talk on the future of libraries; and we'll be running a quiz game and raffle, and of course there will be food and drink. Motivational Interviewing (MI) is hosted by Loyola's Pastoral Counseling department. MI originated as an innovative strategy for counseling resistant clients with alcohol problems. "American and Catholic: Voting for the Common Good"Lectures & Symposia

Fr. Jim Hug, president of the Center of Concern, will engage the Loyola community in a discussion regarding Catholic doctrine and issues of social policy. Founded in 1971, the Center of Concern is an independent research group grounded in Judeo-Christian values and Catholic Social Teaching. Fr. Hug focuses on research regarding faith and economic justice, and has lectured extensively in Europe, Asia, and the United States.

Last Sunday at Beans and BreadService

On the last Sunday of every month, Loyola students, faculty, staff, administration and their families can be found together in the kitchen of Beans & Bread preparing the meal for the day. It is a time of unity for the Loyola community and a chance to get to know other people on campus with the same interests, as well as people from the Baltimore community. Each last Sunday, the Loyola community takes full responsibility for funding, staffing and operating Beans & Bread Meal Program. If not for the Loyola community, Beans & Bread could not afford to be open on that Sunday.
