Sophomores discern lifelong goals at winter vocational retreat Each year, more than 100 Loyola sophomores experience a retreat that offers far more than a respite from academia. RoadTrip is a three-day journey that encourages students to explore answers to questions that leave many adults twice their age stumped. What are your talents? Where are your talents needed? What brings you joy? These are just a few questions posed to students during the retreat, which Loyola’s Sophomore Initiatives program began three years ago. In an effort to help the students with the discernment process, the facilitators create an environment that encourages reflection and sharing. “RoadTrip helps students learn how to incorporate reflection into their daily lives,” says Michele Cheatem, sophomore initiatives director. “It provides them with the tools to help them answer questions about who they are called to be, what brings them joy and where their gifts and talents are needed in the community. It has been known to transform students’ lives.” The 2008 retreat will be held just prior to the commencement of the second semester at the Willow Valley Resort in Lancaster, PA, January 11-13. The deadline for registrating is November 30. The cost is only $75 and includes lodging and all meals. Scholarships are available.
