Greetings Parents!

Excitement's in the air at Loyola as the spring semester comes to a close. We are thrilled to announce our Commencement speaker, CBS’ Lesley Stahl, who will address more than 1,600 undergraduate and graduate members of the Class of 2008 on May 17. You’ll also read about the newly appointed dean of the Sellinger School, which BusinessWeek recently ranked as one of the Top 50 undergraduate business schools in the country. We’ve also just appointed the Founding Dean of our planned School of Education, a move that brings us one major step closer to the School’s launch.

Since transforming this newsletter from print to its current electronic format last year, we have received wonderful feedback from our parents and colleagues at other colleges. With this issue, we’re excited to share a new enhancement to our student profiles. With help from our on-campus television studio, our student profiles now include video interviews. Click on their photos to hear what the four campus leaders featured in this issue have to say about their College experience. We appreciate and encourage your feedback and look forward to sharing more news with you next fall.

Be sure to check out the calendar of events as we have a number of activities remaining this spring and quite a few already scheduled for the fall.

Congratulations to the graduating seniors in the Class of 2008 and you, their parents. I wish you all the best.

Enjoy your summer!

Susan Donovan, Ph.D.
Vice President for Student Development and
Dean of Students

Academics
Come First for
Loyola Student-Athletes

Success on the field is a top priority for many college athletes, but for Loyola’s 400-plus student-athletes, classroom achievement is equally important. Early morning practices, hectic travel schedules and exhausting athletic competitions can wreak havoc on a student’s ability to perform consistently in class, but a nationally recognized academic advising program, mandatory study halls and strong work ethics have combined to push Loyola athletes’ GPAs and graduation rates far above the national averages.
