Siblings spend weekend at Loyola

Jennifer McDaniel, '11, enjoys time with her little sister during Little Siblings Weekend.

More than 110 siblings of Loyola College students arrived on campus on Friday, April 11 for the annual Little Siblings Weekend. The weekend offered a full slate of events based on this year’s theme, “Be a Rock Star,” inspired by the popular Guitar Hero video game.

This year’s Siblings Weekend kicked off with an Improv Comedy show followed by a Guitar Hero session/pizza party. The night ended with a Midnight breakfast, offering a large assortment of traditional breakfast foods and refreshments. Saturday’s activities ranged from a trip to Baltimore’s Inner Harbor to the annual Casino Night. Many chose to play volleyball or watch the men’s lacrosse team beat Georgetown. Students and siblings played for prizes such as a Nintendo Wii, an iPod, a karaoke system, games, movies, toys and more. Sunday offered families an opportunity to reunite during Family Mass followed by a brunch. A slide show of photos taken throughout the weekend was displayed so parents, students and siblings could revisit the weekend’s activities.

Little Siblings Weekend is an annual event sponsored by the Resident Affairs Council (RAC), a branch of the Student Government Association that serves to improve the quality of life for residential students. It addresses the problems, concerns, and questions that resident students may have, along with representing the collective interests of Loyola’s resident students to the campus community. The RAC provides social and educational events for individual residence halls and the college as a whole by organizing community-building activities with other organizations on campus and actively promoting diversity in activities and policies.
