Administrator Toolbox The Year of the City committee invites all members of the College community to explore new and thoughtful ways to become active and involved in the life of Baltimore. The Year of the City is an opportunity for us to think about the work that we do in relation to the mission and goals of Loyola College. The following are some questions to consider as you prepare to contribute to Year of the City: 1. Do you have an interest in exploring collaborative projects and working with other administrators in your area, or another part of the College, to develop a sustainable project? 2. In your role as an administrator, do you have special insight or skills that may be useful to the College as it works to add greater involvement with the City of Baltimore? 3. What suggestions do you have for other administrators looking for opportunities to get involved with Year of the City projects and programs? In addition to reflecting on these issues, you might consider the following suggestions of ways to become involved: - Contact an administrative member of the Year of the City Coordinating Committee.
- You may want to get involved by volunteering for an existing program through the Center for Community Service and Justice.
- Think about your existing programs and processes and determine how the City can be integrated into plans and goals. Your contribution may only require you thinking about the work you currently do in light of the mission and goals of Year of the City.
- Organize your thoughts with the reflection questions above and devote a meeting or planning day for developing ways your office could contribute to this important initiative in the life of the College.
- Do some research to make sure your project meets a need in the community. This can be done by contacting an agency or school that your project will benefit.
- Discuss your ideas with others and check the website to ensure that you are not duplicating an initiative that is already in place.
Things to consider as a supervisor: - Hopefully all members of your staff will want to participate in some fashion in the Year of the City initiative. Please take the time to solicit ideas for their participation and encourage their involvement.
- Provide clear lines of communication between you and your staff about individual involvement as it relates to your administrative calendars so participation is possible with minimal interruption to normal office operations.
- Consider a department or office-wide project to ensure participation for all those wanting to get involved.
Important Next Steps Within this toolbox are the resources for submitting a proposal, partnering on an initiative, securing funding for a program, and viewing the Year of the City events calendar. We encourage you to utilize this toolbox throughout the year as you plan your Year of the City programs and events.
