Faculty Reception set amid unique exhibit: The City Real and Ideal The Annual Faculty Reception, an event hosted by College President Brian F. Linnane designed to welcome new and returning faculty to the academic year, will take place Friday, Oct. 20 at 6:30 p.m. at the Baltimore Museum of Art. This year's reception coincides with a special BMA exhibit "The City Real and Ideal," which complements Loyola College's celebration of The Year of the City. The exhibit, located adjacent to the reception and open during the event, features more than 50 printed images of European cities from the 15th to the 19th centuries created by artists including Albrecht Durer, Caneletto and Giovanni Battista Parenesi. The pieces showcased in the exhibit capture the complex roles of the city in European life, as well as many of the influential beliefs and values of the era. A careful mix of symbolic works and those of historical and topographical accuracy, "The City Real and Ideal" depicts urban landscapes from Renaissance Florence to Baroque Paris, paying tribute to their significance as centers of wealth, power and cultural achievement. |
