Refugee/Asylee Information Panel to be held on October 25th Every year, refugees and asylees from countries all over the globe enter the United States, through Baltimore, in search of a new home and a new life. Having been forced to leave their native countries--often for reasons of religious, social, political or ethnic persecution--they arrive with few belongings, if any. Many choose to stay in Baltimore, contributing to the rich cultural fabric of the City's life while they strive, and in many cases struggle, to rebuild their lives. On Wednesday, October 25th, Loyola hosts a panel discussion of the plight of refugees and asylees in Baltimore and the ways that the refugee community contributes to Baltimore's society and culture. Organized by Loyola alumnus and Lutheran Social Services employee Brendan Hogan, the panel consists of a variety of speakers, including refugees/asylees, representatives of the International Rescue Committee, and employees of Lutheran Social Services. The panel will take place in McGuire Hall West from 4:30 - 6:30 pm. Please contact Betsy Schmidt (History) at (410) 617-2326 for additional information. |
