U. of Baltimore hosts workshop on “Colleges and Universities as Economic Engines: Baltimore and Beyond”

The University of Baltimore and the Annie E. Casey Foundation invite representatives of the area’s colleges and universities to attend a presentation and discussion on the theme “Colleges and Universities as Economic Engines: Baltimore and Beyond on Monday.”  The guest speaker will be Carol Coletta, the President and CEO of CEOs for Cities, an organization that unites urban mayors, corporate CEOs and leaders of foundations and universities around a 'competitive cities' agenda.  Ms. Coletta, a nationally renowned urban policy advisor, will facilitate an exploration of topics including: strategies for retaining more engaged college and university alumni in the region; the role of universities in regional economic development including business incubation, technology transfer, and local business assistance; increasing local economic impact through university hiring and purchasing decisions; universities as shapers of the economy of the future with a special focus on preparing the workforce of the future (GED to Ph.D.); universities as investors and developers, including shared housing and real estate investments, and the use of foundation dollars.

This event is the second in a series of workshops in which Baltimore-area colleges and universities come together to explore what works well in university-community partnerships locally and nationally.
