The Jesuit Social Apostolate

"Just as the students need the poor in order to learn, so the professors need partnerships with the social apostolate in order to research and teach and form."

Fr. Peter-Hans Kolvenbach, S.J.

In his October 2000 address at Santa Clara University, Fr. Peter-Hans Kolvenbach, S.J., Superior General of the Society of Jesus, challenged Jesuit universities to take up "the real concerns of the poor" in their pursuit of adademic excellence.  Toward that end, he urged the universities--their faculty especially--to collaborate with "those in the Church and in society who work among and for the poor and actively seek justice."

The projects of the Jesuit social apostolate in Baltimore and the wider region offer a variety of potential avenues for collaboration.  Check out what's going on in the local and extended Jesuit world, and allow yourself to imagine how, through new and existing partnerships, we might address issues of poverty in constructive solidarity.
