Year of the City Leave Policy

In order to be fully immersed in the College’s Year of the City initiative, it is recognized that involvement may be necessary during the workweek schedule.  To that end, the College has authorized the use of one paid workday (the workday for most administrative offices is seven and one-half hours; the workday for most Public Safety/Transportation and Parking employees is eight hours) to be used throughout the 2006-2007 academic year.  Should involvement in Year of the City initiatives extend beyond this academic year, or the seven and one-half hours (7-1/2) hours allotted for this academic year, it will be the responsibility of the participant to utilize accrued vacation leave or personal leave days.  This Year of the City paid time will be available to all core and full-time staff and administrators who have completed their provisional employment period.

Use of work time to participate in a Year of the City initiative must be approved in advance by the individual’s immediate supervisor.  Supervisors may deny or limit requested times that interfere with operations.  Staff members are to report their approved Year of the City hours on their time sheets and administrators are to report the approved leave on the Administrative Leave Reports each month.  In addition, this paid time can only be used for College-sponsored Year of the City programs, events, and initiatives.   Said activities can be identified and verified through the calendar included on the Year of the City website.

The seven and one-half hours (7-1/2) hours of paid time can be used in any combination that the individual chooses,  as long as it has been approved by his/her immediate supervisor.  However, it is preferred that the time be used in half-day increments.  Any of the seven and one-half hours (7-1/2)  not used during the 2006-2007 academic year cannot be converted to any other type of leave, and will not be paid out at the end of this period.
