Pastoral Counseling Department sponsors March 27th educational forum On Tuesday, March 27, from 12:30 – 2:00 pm, the Pastoral Counseling program will sponsor an educational forum for pastoral counseling students on the theme of “Social Justice Awareness and Client Advocacy: Implications for the Pastoral Counseling Student.” The forum will take place on Loyola College’s Columbia, MD, campus, in Room 361. The forum is an effort to aid pastoral counseling students’ awareness of the growing emphasis on social justice and advocacy in professional counseling. As clinical pastoral counselors-in-training who live and work in the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan region, pastoral counseling students frequently encounter clients who have been psychologically injured by social injustice. With this in mind, the Pastoral Counseling Department, in tandem with the Year of the City initiative, has put together a panel that features faculty, community leaders, alumni, and students who will address Loyola’s vision of social justice and describe their direct experience working with social justice issues in the region. The members of the panel include: Sr. Catherine (Missy) Gugerty, S.S.N.D.: Director of the Center for Community Service and Justice at Loyola College in Maryland Rev. Jesús Reyes: Vicar of San Jose Episcopal Church and Missioner of La Iglesia de Santa Maria Dr. Bonny Forrest, Ph.D., J.D.: Pastoral Counseling faculty member, neuropsychologist, lawyer, and social justice advocate Rev. Melvin Pride: Ph. D. Pastoral Counseling student
The panel will be moderated by Dr. Gerry Fialkowski, faculty member of Loyola College. Panel admission and lunch are free to pastoral counseling students. For additional information, please contact Dr. Kayliz Oakes at (410) 617-7631 or via e-mail. |
