GWGuardian Information

Click here to access your quarantine.

PLEASE READ: On Sunday morning, October 22, 2006, Loyola College upgraded to the latest version of GWGuardian, the software that is used to minimize the delivery of spam and virus-infected e-mail to your GroupWise mailbox. This new version improves spam filtering.

All Loyola e-mail users need to be aware of the following:

  • A new quarantine was automatically created for each user on Sunday morning and spam that is in the old quarantine at that time WAS NOT moved to the new quarantine.
  • One final GWGuardian quarantine report was sent to you listing the contents of the old quarantine if you had not previously turned off the quarantine reports. If you need to release an item from the old quarantine, you can do so by clicking on the “release” link in that last e-mail quarantine report or by logging into GWGuardian using the link below.
  • From now on, the daily quarantine reports to users will list only items in the NEW quarantine.
  • Some of the options on the Web page for the new version, such as where you choose whether or not to receive a daily report of newly-quarantined e-mail, will be accessible using a somewhat different menu.
  • Even with the new, improved version of GWGuardian, an occasional spam message will still arrive in your Groupwise mailbox. In that case, just delete it. GWGuardian is not a perfect solution. It is just a method to make e-mail easier to use by filtering out most of the obvious spam messages.
If you have any questions, please call the Technology Service Center on x5555.

GWGuardian works with GroupWise to reduce the number of spam e-mail messages you receive and to block viruses. When spam and virus-infected messages are sent to your Loyola.edu address, GWGuardian will intercept most of them and place them into a quarantine folder on the network. By default, a daily e-mail message is sent by GWGuardian to your mailbox informing you of the spam messages that you received; however, you can choose not to receive these daily messages.

You can inspect the quarantined messages by opening your daily message or by logging in to GWGuardian at www.loyola.edu/myspam at any time. If you decide that a message that has been identified as spam is not, in fact, spam, you can have that message released to your GroupWise mailbox. Messages identified as containing viruses cannot be released. GWGuardian will save quarantined spam and virus-infected messages for 10 days after which they will be automatically deleted.
