HEAR YE!! HEAR YE!! – Announcing the release of the IntelliSPEECH® Speech Recognition System!  This easy-to-use system has been integrated with our telephone system to allow anyone to call individuals or departments by simply speaking an employee’s name or department name.  (Student names are not recognized in the system at this time).  For brief instructions on how to use the system and some useful tips, please continue reading.

How to Use IntelliSPEECH® in Two Easy Steps:

1. Dial x-7411 from any phone on campus or (410) 617-7411 from your home phone or cell phone.
2. When you hear the voice greeting, say the first and last name of the person you wish to reach or the department name.  (for example, say “John Smith” or “Human Resources”) You will then be connected to that person’s extension or department extension.

Please Check Your Name!

The first time you use the system, please test it by saying your own first and last name.  If you find that the routing or pronunciation of your name is inaccurate, please call the IntelliSPEECH® voice mailbox at x-2700 and leave a message describing the problem.  This box is monitored frequently and serves as the main repository for all information concerning pronunciation errors, call routing issues and user feedback.

IntelliSPEECH® is a “learning” system, the more it is used the more it learns.  During each use, the system learns specifics about how your name is pronounced.

Tips for Success:

• Pronounce each word individually and clearly.  The system is very sensitive and will pick up on background noises.  Be patient when using a speakerphone or cell phone, you may need to repeat the name more than once if your cell phone connection is poor before the system recognizes your request.
• Do not say “please” or “extension” before or after requesting a person or department.
• IntelliSPEECH® is equipped with a timesaving “barge-in” feature.  This allows you to begin talking before the voice greeting is complete.  You do not have to wait to make a request or speak.
