There are several ways that students can connect to the Loyola Residential Network (RezNet). Note: we require that you run anti-virus and anti-spyware software, and that your computer is fully patched before connecting to the network. If your computer does not have these programs, you will need to install them before you are allowed to connect to the Loyola Reznet. One option for connecting, which is now available in all residence halls, is to connect wirelessly. This will work with any operating system. For more information about the Loyola wireless program, click here. If you choose to connect to the Internet via the network jack in your dorm room, there are three options available to you, depending on which operating system your computer uses. In all three cases, when you first connect your computer and you open a Web browser, you will initially be redirected to a Web page called "Loyola College in Maryland - Residential Network" which includes further instructions for connecting. For Windows XP users: The instructions will provide a link to install a piece of security software called Integrity. Be sure to reboot your computer after you install Integrity. If you are a returning student and already have Integrity installed on your computer from last year, you do not need to uninstall last year's version of Integrity. The installation will upgrade the version on your computer to this year's version of the software. Once you install Integrity, you will be directly connected to the Internet and not have to take any additional steps in the future. For Vista users: The instructions will provide a link that initiates a security scan. This process requires you to download and install software. You MUST allow the software to be downloaded and installed and initiate the scan. Also, you will need to allow any pop-up windows that appear during this scan. After the scan, a login window will pop up. You need to login with your Loyola username and password (your GroupWise username and password). For Mac users: You will need to call the Technology Service Center at x5555 to get connected. This is also the case for students wishing to use Tivos, an XBox, PS2, PS3 (or other gaming system), or other device that connects to the network. The goal of these security features is to encourage all students to install an antivirus product on their computers, and to keep their computers patched. At the bottom of the initial page you saw when you connected to the Internet are links to download and install a version of Symantec AntiVirus that is being provided free by the College to all students. Download the individual RezNet components: - Integrity login client (only avilable from the Loyola campus) Just download and run the program.
- FREE Symantec AntiVirus (only available from the Loyola campus) First, uninstall any antivirus products on your computer that you did not receive from Loyola. You can update the version right on top of previous versions of Loyola's antivirus. Then download the zip file, unzip it to a temporary folder, and double click the installer.bat file.
- Loyola Netdrive (only available from the Loyola campus) Just download and run the program.
- Groupwise client (available to all)
Technology Services requires this step not only to protect your computer from threats, but also to help prevent the transmission of computer viruses. Information for all other students who bring a computer to campus:
Before connecting your computer to RezNet, you will need to insure that your computer is in "good health." To help you with this, the Technology Service Center provides two checklists. Before you connect, please review these checklists. Information for all students: In order to be prepared in case you have trouble with your computer, Technology Services recommends that you bring the following items to campus with your computer: - The recovery CD that came with your computer;
- All installation CDs and license keys for your software;
- Warranty information and manufacturer contact information.
Technology Services also recommends that you regularly back up your data. For more information about data back up, transfer and protection, go to www.loyola.edu/storestuff. The RezNet Room (KH B04): Technology Services has established the “RezNet Room,” located in Knott Hall Room B04, as a central location for student computer service.
