iGoForth

iGoForth is a program sponsored by technology services where students, faculty, or administrators can pitch ideas for Loyola mobile apps. Teams of students build the apps - an excellent learning experience and one which they can tout on their resumes! Successful apps can be submitted to the app store and one winning app will win a prize!

iGoForth Mobile Fire II – the second annual student mobile app development contest has closed. The teams have worked hard all academic year to develop campus-submitted ideas into a unique to Loyola mobile app that students, faculty, staff and administrators will find valuable. We started the contest with four teams last September. Each team was assigned a faculty advisor, chose a name, project manager, selected their app idea from a gallery of ideas submitted by the campus last summer and then got down to work. First they interviewed the person that submitted the idea in order to learn exactly what “problem” that person wanted to solve. From the interviews, project documents including the “Requirements document, Scope Statement and Project Charter were drafted and submitted to the contest Advisory Team. The team also mapped out the screen shots for their mobile app design. All of these activities were completed before the Christmas holiday break. When the teams returned for the spring semester, developer workshops were held and the teams learned how to develop code for mobile devices using an Adobe product called PhoneGap. Today we are proud to announce the two mobile app submissions for the contest:

FAC Tracker - your personal gym lifeline. It reports how busy the FAC is at any given time and contains all information pertaining to club sports, group exercise, intra-murals, hours of operation and other programs at the FAC. Everything you need to know about the FAC at your fingertips including the FAC's Twitter page!

LoGo - Loyola's first safety application where all emergency information and help is at your fingertips. Call campus police at the touch of a button, watch Loyola Shuttles move on the map, and calculate your legal drinks/ BAC to prevent risky situations. The application also includes safety tips on how to report sexual misconduct, bias reports, on-campus safety, transportation options, and street smarts. LoGo provides quick info in the moment of need!

Now it is your turn!

Go to the Loyola App Store to download and try out each app. When you are ready, visit the contest voting page to register your vote!

Please note that voting is open from Monday 4/28 at noon through Money 5/5 at noon.

The winning app will be announced on Tuesday, May 6th at noon on the Quad. In case of inclement weather, the festivities will move inside to the College Center!
