Gabrielle Horchos

After completing her bachelor’s degree in Global Studies with a minor in natural sciences from Loyola University Maryland, Gabrielle (Gaba) set out to distinguish herself among her peers before applying to medical school by earning her MBA. “I felt that diversifying myself as an applicant and future doctor for medical school was the best way to learn more and be a better physician for my future patients.” And her hard work paid off. After completing the Emerging Leaders MBA (ELMBA) program through the Sellinger School of Business and Management, she will start her journey as a medical student at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. The immersive nature of the ELMBA program made all the difference for Gaba. “I felt as though I was in the thick of it, learning not only the academic business skills but also the finer polished professional skills that are required to be successful in the real world.” Throughout her time in the program, Gaba honed these skills through a fellowship program with a private equity firm and as a full-time graduate assistant with Loyola’s office of undergraduate admission. And while her future isn’t exclusively in the business world, Gaba explained that she’s met many doctors who “wished they knew more about business, group work, and the intersectionality between health care and the business world.” As she makes her transition from the ELMBA program to medical school, Gaba reflects on what is means to be Loyola Ready: “I am a conscientious, educated, and compassionate woman... to whom much is given, much is expected in return.” She knows that her experience at Loyola has given her the tools needs to be successful and helped her to become an “individual who cares about social justice and the success of others.”
