Tyler Schoch

Tyler graduated in 2019 from Loyola, where he double majored in French and biology. While at Loyola, he was an active member of the Honors Program, the varsity cross country and track team, Rendez-Vous Haiti, and French Club. After graduation, he worked as a full-time medical scribe at CityMD Urgent Care in New York City and at his alma mater, Regis High School, as an assistant coach for the track and cross country team. Tyler is currently in clinical rotations at the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine in Nutley, N.J. He values Loyola’s Jesuit liberal arts education because of the broad base of knowledge he gained, which helps him connect with patients. “From conversing with patients from Burkina Faso in French to understanding and empathizing with the complex factors playing into a family’s end of life decisions... I really cannot emphasize enough how in medicine, I am constantly using skills that I developed in my humanities classes.” Tyler is deeply grateful for the mentorship and support of his Loyola professors and teammates, noting a few faculty who impacted his time on Evergreen: “Dr. Nguyen, who might be the most empathetic person in the world; Dr. Dale Snow, who made me want to complete all of her assigned readings; and Dr. Hastings, who knows his punk rock as well as he knows his reaction mechanisms.” For Tyler, his Jesuit liberal arts education and the people who supported him along the way at Loyola are key to who is he today and the physician he is becoming.
