Emily Stone

  • Class Year2019, MAcc 2020

  • DegreesBBA and Master of Accounting

A 2020 recipient of the Elijah Watts Sells Award for CPA performance, Emily earned both her BBA in Accounting (2019) and Master of Accounting (2020) from Loyola. While she has seen success early on in her accounting career, when she was first applying to colleges, Emily wasn’t sure what career her future would hold. “It was important for me to go to a school where I could experience multiple disciplines before deciding on my major. When I learned about Loyola’s liberal arts education coupled with the guiding Jesuit principles, I knew Loyola was the place where I’d be able to grow and find my passion.” One such experience included volunteering as a tax preparer with VITA. “I initially volunteered for this program as part of an accounting class during my junior year; I returned my senior year because I found the program to be incredibly rewarding,” she says. “My experience with VITA is a great example of the difference a Jesuit education can make. I was given the opportunity to go beyond the classroom and use the skills I was taught to help make a difference in the Baltimore community.” Today, Emily credits Loyola’s network with helping her make the right connections to progress her career. “The professional connections I made through Loyola ultimately led me to beginning my accounting career at PwC in Baltimore.” She also notes that she’s not the first Loyola grad with a Sells award in her family: “My dad, Gerald Stone, ’87, was the 1987 recipient of the Elijah Watt Sells Award. I find it so special that we share this achievement.”
