Andrea Leary, Ph.D.

  • Academic Focus Writing

A member of Loyola’s faculty since 1993, Andrea Leary, Ph.D., teaches all levels of writing courses at Loyola in addition to serving as the internship coordinator for the writing department. Dr. Leary enjoys teaching at Loyola in part because of the Jesuit mission, and she incorporates service-based learning into her courses. She encourages her students to focus on a core value or purpose to ignite the power of their writing. She also aims to incorporate the Jesuit values into her classroom by hosting two service events with her students each year: Becoming Bulletproof and “One Question,” to raise awareness for neighbors with disabilities. Dr. Leary, who earned her B.A. in English from the College of the Holy Cross and both her M.A. and Ph.D. in English and American Literature from the University of Delaware, says one of the greatest gifts as a professor is witnessing her students’ transformation over the course of the semesterand the positive impact a service project has on them.
