Chris Thompson, Ph.D., will tell you his favorite part of his job as an associate professor of biology at Loyola is developing lasting relationships with his students—and supporting them on their academic journeys. He believes a Loyola education comprised of service-based learning and exposure to many different classes prepares students to be difference-makers in the real world. “By the time they graduate, many of our students are truly living the Jesuit ideals of cura personalis and magis,” says Dr. Thompson, who moved to Maryland from Cheney, Wash., and received his Ph.D. in Immunology from the University of Iowa. He specializes in immunology and microbiology, and his latest research focuses on how the immune system is altered by complementary and alternative medicines, like echinacea and green and black tea.

Through Loyola’s core curriculum, our students take a variety of courses which help them understand people and society in very novel ways. Combined with their innate passion to help others, this allows for personal and professional student development that is remarkably different from what others receive.
