For Denise, Loyola’s M.S. in Data Science is an opportunity to further her data analysis skills and gain hands-on experience with platforms utilized across many industries. As a member of a military family, Denise has lived in many places but called Alabama home for many years. After high school, she spent more than 15 years in the military performing analysis. Denise earned her Bachelor of Science in Computer Networks and Security from the University of Maryland Global Campus and received a certificate in computer networking. After her service, she continued to work with data—but found that she “lacked training and experience in advanced statistical and machine learning concepts.” Loyola’s Data Science program not only taught her the foundations of these subjects, but it offered opportunities to learn commonly used programming languages like Python, SAS, and R. Through Loyola’s program, Denise has gained access to and knowledge of the platforms that data scientists, business intelligence analysts, and researchers are utilizing. “I look forward to using what I have learned to help solve problems and generate new questions that require research, analysis, and thoughtful discussion,” she says.
