- Class of 2020
- Major, Minor Global Studies, Environmental Studies
When Ellie came to Loyola from Raleigh, N.C., she didn’t know at first what she wanted to study. She discovered the global studies major and then added an environmental studies minor, both of which she hopes serve her in her future career as an attorney. It was at a teach-in held by the Environmental Action Club that she really connected with one of her Messina faculty, Jean Lee Cole, Ph.D., associate professor of English, who is also her advisor. Dr. Cole introduced Ellie to the mats created for people experiencing homelessness using plastic grocery bags and large crochet hooks. The two meet every Wednesday in the Center for Community Service and Justice’s lounge, sit and talk, and create mats of "plarn" (plastic yarn) to support this cause.
