- Class of2021
Meet Franklin, a senior accounting major and Sellinger Scholar from Bowie, Md. “I applied to be a Sellinger Scholar because I wanted the challenge to grow academically, professionally, and personally. I believed the Sellinger Scholars Program presented me with a great opportunity to prepare myself to make a difference at Loyola, in the Baltimore community, and the world,” says Franklin. “I have a wonderful relationship with my fellow senior and junior Sellinger Scholars. It is an honor to be a mentor for a sophomore Sellinger Scholar during my senior year. I’m also part of a business venture called Equalyze with my three Sellinger Scholars team members.” During his four years at Loyola, he has gained valuable networking, leadership development, and presentations skills. He has also enjoyed the site visits to Baltimore-area businesses. “Through my experiences at Loyola, I have developed my self-confidence, a well-rounded knowledge of the business environment and concepts, and life-long relationships with fellow Sellinger Scholars and my professors,” he says. Astrid Schmidt-King, Ph.D., executive in residence in management and international business, JP Krahel, Ph.D., associate professor of accounting, and Kim Wagner, executive in residence for information systems, law and operations, are just a few professors who have shaped Franklin’s experience. This past summer he completed a finance/accounting internship with the National Police Foundation, and this year he is participating in a 2021 KPMG D.C. Federal Audit Summer Internship. Franklin serves his class through student government and as a CHOICE Program Volunteer; he is also a resident assistant and a member of Omicron Delta Kappa.

Loyola's Jesuit liberal arts education and the business degree I am earning have given me the ability to consider all perspectives and learn transferable skills in writing, speaking, and creative and analytical thinking. Overall, my experience here has given me the ability to think for myself and others, demonstrate effective communication and critical thinking skills, and the passion to be a life-long learner.
