- Major, MinorGlobal Studies, Communication
Meet Gabriella, a student majoring in Global Studies and minoring in communication from San Antonio, Texas. Her sights are set on a career in justice—and her experiences through community engagement are preparing her for this career. She interns as both a service coordinator for the Center for Community, Service, and Justice and as publicity assistant for the York Road Initiative. “My experience as a service coordinator allowed me to connect more deeply with Baltimore and the York Road community. Being a publicity assistant helped inform my passion to work towards racial justice in the media.” Through these roles, Gabriella applies her Global Studies and communication education in a real-world context. Mentorship has been a critical part of Gabriella’s growth at Loyola. “Paola Pascual-Ferra, Ph.D., associate professor of communication, has been integral to my growth as a student and a community advocate. Her dedication to social justice in her work has been an inspiration to me.” Gabrielle is also a leader for Loyola Rising, a student-led movement focused on racial injustice and police violence in Baltimore. She serves as a peer facilitator for the Kino Border Initiative and is involved with the Green and Grey Society, a select group of seniors who are elected by their peers because they demonstrate and embody Jesuit excellence to serve as advisors to the University executives.

My experience at Loyola has been challenging, but I have grown with my communities over the past four years to seek change and justice for the future generations of Loyola.
