- Class of 2018
- Program School Counseling
John Montgomery is pursuing his master's degree in School Counseling through Loyola's School of Education. Originally from Miami, Fla., John holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Business Administration from Florida International University. A desire to make an impact on the young people in his community led him to shift gears from business to education mid-career. He chose Loyola because of its reputation, its emphasis on self-reflection, and the Jesuit values. “The core foundations of my Jesuit education fall in line seamlessly with key areas of focus for my career,” says John. “A strong focus on social justice and an emphasis on serving a diverse range of students, while focusing on the whole person, will allow me to be a well-rounded and culturally competent school counselor.” John works as a graduate assistant at Loyola’s Career Center, helping Loyola students discern their own career path, and as a counselor for Baltimore County Public Schools.

The most rewarding aspect of my Loyola education is how quickly I realized my professors have a vested interest in my success.
