Josie

  • Class of2022

  • Major, MinorPsychology, Sociology

Meet Josie. Born in Uruguay, she has since lived in Paraguay, the Dominican Republic, and most recently, Rockville, Md. Josie is majoring in psychology with a minor in sociology. Josie is conducting research alongside Amy Wolfson, Ph.D., professor of psychology who was also Josie’s Messina advisor, on the topic of sleep health among foster care children. She is eternally grateful to have met such a devoted mentor during her first year at Loyola. “Dr. Wolfson is brilliant, supportive to all her mentees, and she’s humble at heart. In a way, it is thanks to Dr. Wolfson that I grew confident both in my field and in my academic self.” Loyola’s Jesuit liberal arts education is also shaping Josie as a well-rounded individual. She says, “I love to see how many of my classes intertwine and help me expand my knowledge of different fields.” Outside of the classroom, she serves on the honor council and has participated in community engagement, including volunteering weekly for a semester with Soccer Without Borders—an experience, she says, “that led me to both cultural and emotional growth.”
