Loyola’s education program allowed Mia to begin gaining teaching experience in a Baltimore classroom during her first semester. She observed and led students weekly to gain teaching experience; and almost every semester since, she has enrolled in a unique, subject-focused field experience. As a student with an elementary education major and special education minor, she was thrilled with the opportunities Loyola provided to engage in service that would further her career. Mia volunteered with local elementary schools and held leadership positions in the education honor society, Kappa Delta Pi. She says, “Loyola’s motto, Strong Truths Well Lived, has led me to discover what matters most to me and inspires me to seek out things that I love in my daily life. I have grown so much and deepened the passion I always had for teaching and helping others.” Mia is also a dance teacher in Loyola’s Dance Company, and this experience helped her grow her confidence and develop leadership skills that she will apply to her future career as an educator.
