  • ProgramM.S. Speech-Language Pathology

Sarah has long known she wanted to become a speech-language pathologist, and she chose Loyola for her both undergraduate and graduate education. Now, she says, the Jesuit tenant of cura personalis, or care for the whole person, is ingrained in her life. In fact, it has become foundational to her experience and her growth as a clinician. Sarah, who grew up in North Branford, Conn., received her B.A. in Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences and is now a graduate student pursuing a Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology. “Few universities have departments that show such care, that build such community,” she says. “Loyola’s embraces diversity and prepares candidates for clients of various needs and backgrounds. I have gained great clinical experience, both in undergraduate and graduate school.” She also speaks to the role mentorship had in her life through her relationship with Janet Pries, Ed.D., CCC-SLP, associate professor and graduate program director: “She has inspired me to face challenges head-on and accept that perfection is not always the key. I hope one day I can make even half the impact on my clients that she has made on all of her students.” After graduation, she will stay in Baltimore to complete her clinical fellowship year (CFY) at Kennedy Krieger Institutes’ Child and Family Support Center (CFSC). This center focuses on providing early intervention to the Baltimore community through home-based and clinic-based therapy. “I had the opportunity to have my Fall 2021 clinical externship at CFSC and am thrilled to be part of this community again during the start of my career. Also, I am thrilled to be following my passion of being an SLP in an early intervention setting. I love being part of building foundational communication skills for children, as communication is certainly a foundation of all relationships!” says Sarah.
